Rock of Ages Rehearsal Log - 16/10/23

Link To Rehearsals from 18/10/23 19/10/23 - Here I Go Again and Any Way You Want It  This week was our first week back from the half term and it was also our last week before we begin moving on the stage and the tech process. As we start to come to the end of the creative process, we are really starting to refine each of the numbers and starting to address smaller issues that will help to perfect the show as much as possible. Although I have been making a great amount of progress in terms of my SMART Targets, I do feel that I need to refine certain sections within these too; in particular for my diction, I feel that there are certain scenes and songs where my diction is still a little sloppy, these moments are often the more quiet and vulnerable moments for Drew and as a result of his more closed off and quiet demeanour my diction subconciously slips as a result. I also need to improve on aspects of my body language a little, particularly when being turned out more to face t...

Week Starting - 9/10/23  Don't Stop Believing - 9/10/23  Don't Stop Believing - 12/10/23  Oh Sherrie - 12/10/23  The Final Countdown - 12/10/23  Oh Sherrie - 13/10/23  Don't Stop Believing - 13/10/23  The Final Countdown - 13/10/23 This week has been one of my most difficult but successful yet. I faced a few challenges this week as we finished learning the harmonies for the songs within act 2 of Rock of Ages. In particular, I faced a great deal of difficulty with one of the last numbers of the play: "Oh Sherrie". Due to the Teen version of Rock of Ages having certain changes to songs, mainly being that a lot of the songs are in a lower key, I have struggled quite a bit with a number of these songs as a result of it taking me a while to find the correct key to sing in, however none of these have I struggled more with than "Oh Sherrie". The final lines of the chorus in particular proved to be a great challenge for me and actually required me to spend a n...

Week starting - 2/10/23  2/10/23 - Here I Go Again  2/10/23 - More Than Words/To Be With You/Heaven  3/10/23 - Dead or Alive  6/10/23 - Dead or Alive  I feel that this week has been very successful in our development of the show we have been able to successfully learn the majority of scenes in Act 1. As a result of this, I feel that my confidence has grown a great deal in the numbers and scenes in which I am involved in, I have also been able to develop my characterisation in these numbers as my confidence has grown and this is something which I hope to continue to develop over the coming weeks. I also think that my diction and articulation has improved a lot alongside of this, I have become a lot more confident in the harmonies and experimenting with my solos in different parts of my vocal range in order to create the best performance possible. Over the next week, I would like to further work on my learning of my harmonies, particularly in the second half of th...

Week starting 25/9/23  25/9/23 - I Wanna Rock  25/9/23 - We Built This City/Too Much Time On My Hands  25/9/23 - We Built This City/Too Much Time On My Hands - Pt 2  25/9/23 - Waiting For a Girl Like You  28/9/23 - Just Like Paradise/Nothin' But a Good Time  28/9/23 - Sister Christian  29/9/23 - The Final Countdown  Overall, I feel that this week has been very successful. We have been able to make a great deal of progress with not only learning new numbers, but also improving the ones that we have worked on in previous weeks. In particular Sister Christian, We Built This City and Just Like Paradise have improved a great deal with both my diction and characterisation improving with each rehearsal of these as a result of becoming more comfortable and confident my character and what I have to do in those scenes. We were also able to rehearse and cement other numbers such as Waiting For A Girl Like You and I Wanna Rock, however I do think that these t...

Week starting - 18/9/23 20/9/23 - Dead or Alive  20/9/23 - We Built this City  This week showed a lot of progress for me, I feel I improved a great deal at singing my harmonies for multiple of the songs while moving, these included: Just Like Paradise/Nothin' but a Good Time, Sister Christian and We Built This City. I have also now managed to learn all of the songs for my character in act one and I hope to start learning the act two songs next week. In terms of choreography and staging of scenes and songs, I feel I have made great progress, with us having now worked on multiple of these from act one, I know feel that I just need to cement the progress we have made so far through further rehearsals and looking back at videos to keep them fresh in my memory.  ------

Smart Targets Log - Body language - 2/10/23 (Just Like Paradise/Nothin' But a Good Time)

Image
Week commencing: 2/10/23  3:22 - 8:10  Throughout the opening number, the actor portrays drew with a high level of plucky excitement. He has this level of energy that feels like it is ready to burst out and completely take over the scene. This is shown quite heavily through his posture, with his shoulders being raised and tensed while his back is straight to show how excited Drew is at the prospect of working in the Bourbon Room and being around the epicentre of rock and roll with a shot at showing how he could also be a rock star too.  ----

Smart Targets Rehearsal Log - Diction - 2/10/23

Image
Week Commencing - 2/10/23   This week I was unable to film a video due to me losing my voice as a result of falling ill.  I have chosen multiple exercises in order to further improve my diction. These are a mixture of my own exercises that I have learned and exercises from our music lessons in college.  The first exercise is "Pa Ta Ka". This involves me repeating the sounds "Pa, Ta and Ka" over and over for a period of time. While doing this, I will be over pronouncing the sounds and increase my volume to warm up my voice and jaw at the same time as my diction.  Next, the main part of my warm up will consist of performing a number of tongue twisters. These tongue twisters will use a range of different phonetic sounds this will properly get me prepared for singing with much clearer diction and throughout all of my songs in a much quicker time frame. I have six tongue twisters which I plan to use in order to aid me in this exercise.  ---- Week commencing - 9/...
